"Why are you calling yourself 'Jennifer?' Your name is Jenn."
-Jamie
I don't know why but I just have this thing where I introduce myself to people as "Jennifer." Along with that, I also usually answer my work phone saying "FranklinCovey, This is Jennifer!" Apparently Jamie doesn't like it. Actually, multiple people have asked why I introduce myself as Jennifer because they just know me as "Jenn" I guess. I've thought a lot about this and I do it because my name is actually Jennifer.
I guess I just have an internal conflict with my name. Jennifer is more professional but impersonal, I feel and Jenn seems really casual sometimes. Then there is Jenny that I used to only let Grandpa Stump get away with calling me but Nieko and Kier call me that now occasionally and I've just gotten used to it. ugh. WHY DO I HAVE SO MANY NAMES?! WHO AM I?
jk. that's dramatic. I guess I will stick with this rule: I am "Jennifer" to those I just meet, "Jenn" to friends and family and other people I like...
Actually call me whatever you want, I don't feel like a Jenn or a Jennifer anyways.
Names are weird.
The end.
"Did you know that I function at optimal levels with minimal sleep?"
-Easton
Last sunday Easton came over and he was the funniest, most hyper boy. We've figured out that he only gets like that when he's super sleepy. I wish he was like this more often because he just says the most random things. At one point of the night he just looked at me in the most serious face after going off on some other topic and said this ^^. He was serious.
Don't worry, I asked him if he was on drugs. He was not.
"I love your watch! Is that Michael Kors?!"
-Worker at Bath and Body Works at the check out stand
"HA! no. I legit got this for 15 bucks on veryjane.com." -Me
I didn't mean to laugh in her face. I love that she thought my cheap gold watch was expensive. I sometimes just talk without thinking. But really? I was dressed so slummy that night because my only mission was to get in and out of the mall without being noticed and purchase new holiday soaps and lotions because I was out. I was half way between homeless and business casual. Do you think I would be wearing a Michael Kors watch? I don't think so.
I should have just lied.
"I don't ever remember hugging my brother, Dan."
-Amanda
"My mom says she doesn't have to tell us she loves us because we already know."
-Nieko
While having a conversation about hugging with Amanda and Nieko I realized that my family is a really lovey, touchy-feely kind of family. We just always hug, kiss, and say "I love you" whenever we are around each other or talking to each other. I have nothing against families who don't ever do that, my family is just opposite. I was dying when Nieko and Amanda were telling me all about it. I know their parents and families love each other just as much as mine does but it's just funny how people are raised differently and how some people just don't have to be told that someone loves them or be hugged to be comforted or to feel loved.
I guess I don't have to be hugged to know that someone cares, but I do love it. I will agree that hugging is kind of a weird thing if you really sit and think about it, but it is a good feeling. It's like, "Hey, you're awesome-- Let's embrace as we greet or part ways" hahahahah. OK, it's equal parts weird and fun, I feel. Just don't nuzzle my neck or embrace for too long. Then it just gets weird.
....Oh last weekend and all the hugging. lol
I spent a good portion of the rest of that night trying to get Nieko to agree to hugging his mom and his brother for his birthday next week. He said no.
"I got bored and googled, "Jennifer Hansen, Zac Efron."
-Rob, coworker
The best/sad part was that my "gorgeous" pinterest board of guys that I will never have or meet pulled up as the first result. I just laughed but really I was a little embarrassed at first. Am I obsessive? I don't think so. I just really appreciate good looking human beings, namely Zac Efron and other hot celebs with facial hair. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. You try and find an awesome girl who hasn't pinned a picture or two {or 20} of their celeb crush or other hot Hollywood men, and then we can talk about it.
I think the best was that he randomly googled me and told me about it. I stalk people on FIT (facebook, instagram, twitter) all the time, but I don't tell them about it. I keep that crap to myself and other people I gossip with... Wow, I'm horrible.
But honest ;)
whatever.
"Why haven't you blogged in one hundred years? I NEED your blog." -Jamie
"I just want my life to be a little bit of a mystery." -Me
"Good excuse for being lazy." -Jamie
She's right. Apparently a couple of people still check my blog daily even though I've been doing really bad at keeping it updated. Yes, I've been lazy. But I also just have been less than creative and imaginative. I'll work on it for you, Jaym :) But really, if you have a topic you'd like me to spout off about, you know I'll do it. I told you I would take requests. HA.
I'll do better.

Moms are cool.
This weekend Mama Linda was able to come and visit! It was a short trip for a little over 24 hours and kind of last minute, but we're so glad she was able to come. I've said it a million times, but my mom is the best. She really loves her kids more than anything. I admire a lot of things about her but I think that is one of my favorite things. She'd do anything for us and would rather spend time with us than do anything else. She'd also rather spend money on us than herself. I haven't quite fully understood that one yet. I'm sure if I'm ever blessed to be a mother then I will fully get it someday.
I love that she loves us, and I also love that she's so fun and seriously has the soften skin. Yes, that sounds weird but I always want to remember that my mom has the silkiest skin of any human being i've ever met. I even made Cole and Kier touch her face in the middle of Cheesecake Factory yesterday. They agreed. She also doesn't really have hair on her silky soft arms really and that also makes me jealous. hahaha moving on.
We took mom to see the Saratov Approach (the movie about those two LDS missionaries who were captured in Russia) and it was so good! I'm pretty sure it's only playing in Utah, but if you get the chance when it comes to DVD, you should watch it. I really admire those men. In fact, I admire missionaries in general who choose to leave their families to serve the Lord and preach the gospel to the world. A lot of missionaries are sent to really sketchy areas or just knock on a lot of nice doors with sketchy people behind them, but they go and they do what the Lord has called them to do. I can only hope that I can be that faithful and strong someday. I know I didn't serve a mission, but maybe I will have a son or daughter someday who chooses to serve, and I will have to have faith and be strong enough to let them go and to trust that the Lord is going to take care of them.
....seriously, I could go on and on about how grateful I am to be a Latter-day Saint and about missionaries and all the blessings I have, but I won't. Just see the movie if you can!
We spent the rest of our time with mom shopping at city creek, eating out, and just hanging out at Cole and Kier's house. I really do have the perfect family for me. We aren't always patient sometimes, but we are so close of a family that we just get over it, we talk about it, or we call each other out on our bull. It just works. It's the Hansen way.
oh, oh, oh! I almost forgot that we are throwing a Halloween Party and C&K's house the day after halloween and I'm SO excited for it. We finished getting the rest of the stuff for our costumes and it's going to be great. We also started decorating their cute old farm house with orange lights and cob webs that mom supplied us with. It should be lots of fun. Halloween is my favorite time of the year so I'm just really excited for the festivities this week.
ew. But I'm a little apprehensive about going to the new ward by myself today. This could quite possibly be the worst part about moving so much as a single adult.
Pray for me.

new living space (pics to come)
I was going to wait until I could actually post some pictures of the new apartment to blog about it but since it isn't all the way decorated it's just going to have to wait. Things have been a little interesting the last few days. I had the best help moving out of the old apartment and into the new one. Moving is hard work! I spent all last week packing and cleaning the old apartment whilst being a little sick and dreading Saturday when we'd have to move it all. Well, people, it's finally over. I seriously have the best family and friends. They help me move and they don't even complain or make me feel bad for it.. even though I know it's miserable and they might hate me a little for it. It's whatever. They are champs though. We did the entire move in two and a half hours! Record time. I ended up doing over 50 flights of stairs and did 15,000 steps that day. So people who helped...you really deserved that pizza payment. Really though, my fitbit was loving me but my body really wasn't. Oh well, that's the life of the single nomad. You know, moving place to place and not really knowing what's going on with life...the usual.
I counted the other day and this is the 5th place I've lived in Utah since I graduated in April 2010. Granted, I was in a couple of middle places as a post grad for a while until I found a job and figured out where I needed to be. So I guess it's really been three official apartments now. This time is the first time since BYU-Idaho that I've lived with another girl, though. That's going to be the biggest change I think. Right now we are just figuring it all out. We've both had roommates before but we were both in school at the time. So now that we just "work" it's kind of interesting. We'll figure it out, but I'm glad that I have a good roommate. It will feel like home soon and we'll get the hang of it all eventually :) I really just need Kier to help me make my room cute (hint hint.. ha!)
My room is huge and I love that part the most. I'm getting used to not having cable too. If you know me then you know that's a big deal for me. I only thought once about how I missed the episode of Keeping up with the Kardashian's on Sunday (it was the baby North West episode)..I really did just think about it for a second, shrugged my shoulders and moved on. I think this means I'm growing up? Getting a life? I don't know, but it feels pretty good. Now, I'm not saying that I cut out shows, though. ha! Get real. After breaking out in Hives from having to be rude to the Digis people, I finally got someone who knew what they were doing and got us hooked up for internet. Thank you Hulu, Thank you Netflix, thank you Mtv.com.. thank you Internet! Really. I can watch pretty much all my shows online...minus the Kardashian's and a few others that I probably shouldn't even watch anyways. It's all trash that I love. Can we afford cable? Yes. But we're just trying something new. Honestly, not having the TV on as background noise has been nice. I've been able to just "be" and think and it's been kind of nice. We'll see how long it lasts. It's a new adventure!
I was talking with Nieko and Willy at separate times last weekend and we realized that moving back to main street really does just bring back some good memories. It's back to where we all started. Sure, I'm in a different apartment complex, but it's right in the back yard of my old, old apartment when I was at Sterling Point where we all met. Except this time it's south of the complex, away from the "Mexican border." (I really should stop calling that but I think I told you that when I lived there I legit saw kids crawling under the fence to play on our apartment complex basketball court and it was common to be woken up on a Saturday or Sunday morning to a full blown 'fiesta' with bounce houses. It was a good time. ..and Kind of sketch. Ole'!). Anyways, it kind of just made us stop and think about how much each of us has grown up. Well, maybe not grown up.. but we're figuring things out about we who are and who we aren't more and more each year.
People have graduated, gotten married, left the group, met new people, left on missions, tried new things, gotten closer to each other, made mistakes, moved, gotten annoyed with each other, had random crushes/significant others, been jobless, gotten new jobs..the works! Even though last year was a really hard year for a lot of us, it was sprinkled with A LOT of good memories that we will always tie back to my second official apartment in Utah up on Highway 193. It was a great apartment and I will miss that GINORMOUS closet dearly, but I take comfort in the fact that no matter where I go, or what things I go through, I have so many great people around me and that I'm there for a reason. I almost left Layton thinking that I was done with it and got what I needed out of it..but it wasn't the time. I could say that it's just because the apartments were more expensive and more ghetto closer to Salt Lake but I know that it's more than that. It always is. I'm not sure what will come out of this next year in this new apartment but right now I feel like I'm right where I'm supposed to be...and that's a pretty good feeling :)

"I've got the sugar sweats."
-Sam
Ok, so this one was said a couple of weeks ago but I found it in my notes on my phone and had to share. Remember that time when every one of my friends made fun of me for getting a neck freeze at Sonic? Well, they still make fun of me for it. In fact, Chris made fun of me at Cole and Kier's wedding while eating Zepe's and I didn't even catch it. He claimed he had a neck freeze and those are real.. I wasn't going to judge. ANYWAYS, Sam was eating some gummy bears and he claimed that he had the "sugar sweats." I know I shouldn't make fun but I feel like sugar sweats are less real than neck freezes are. He also claims "meat sweats" are real. He said when he eats an access amount of mean or sugar he sweats. I feel like he made it up.. but I googled it and there is at least one other unlucky soul with the same problem. But I bet if we put sugar sweats up against a neck freeze, I feel like the neck freeze would be deemed more real. They hurt. It's a real thing.
"You have nothing to offer"
-Kiersten
Now, Nieko and Amanda would probably have to help me remember what she exactly said but this is how I remember it. What she should have done was just shot me right in the face because that's how much those words hurt.
haha ok, I know she didn't mean it that way. She was talking about my facebook status when I posted that anyone who found us a roommate would get paid in "smiles and Texas Roadhouse Rolls." Well, since Amanda works at Texas Roadhouse she just assumed that the thing I was offering to pay was the smiles. GET REAL. 1.) Anyone can buy rolls from Texas Roadhouse and 2.) Who doesn't want smiles from me? Plus, I'm funny. That status was funny. and 3.) You're rude. (not all the time but you were a little snippy towards only me that night for some reason.. See next quote)
"No, JENN! I'm not OK. I almost got electrocuted."
-Kier unleashing the wrath of Satan after being shocked.
Can we please take a moment to mention the reason she was shocked? It happened when she decided to touch a neon white light with her bare hand. It would be one thing if Nieko or someone convinced her to touch it, because he has a way of getting people to do dumb things, but this was all on her own. In fact, no one was watching at all, she was just curious to see what would happen. She just touched the neon sign under the protective plastic and instantly screamed in pain. I was just being nice when I asked if she was OK and she yelled at me.
We got a good laugh out of it. It was mostly funny because of what she had told me earlier. I guess I shouldn't have even asked if she was Ok, because as we all know, I would have nothing to offer her if she truly wasn't OK.
JK. Kier, I love you.. even when you're a meany head.
"He had the worst breath!" -Me about the AT&T worker
"I was trying to figure out what that was.. it was like someone had the worst BO ever." -Nieko
That BO smell was legit coming out of a human mouth. The workers mouth. The stinky, non helpful At&T worker's mouth to be exact. Nieko and I spent the next 10 minutes after we left the store talking about his breath. It's honestly a toss up between which makes me the most angry between his breath or the fact that my iPhone 5S just barely shipped this morning after a month of waiting around. Gross. What's even worse is that Nieko's Dad and brother went into that same store the day before and had the same employee helping them. How did we know? His foul breath.
"My phone's dead, I have to pee, and I'm going to go on a rant like Jenn"
-Neiko
So now the truth comes out! Apparently he thinks I go on rants or something? Rude. HAHHAAHA jk. I rant all the time. The comment was valid. You should have heard this one though. His voice was almost gone from the Utah game, it was almost 1:00 am, and we were walking downtown Salt Lake... you'd have thought he was dying. We got a good laugh out of it. Once he peed and stopped complaining we quickly transitioned into singing "Benny and the Jets" most of the rest of the walk to the parking garage.
....Good times.
"You need to store at least 10 gallons of gas somewhere for when the shi(z) hits the fan." -Dad talking about disasters
"Stop saying that nasty word."
-Mom in reference to dad saying the S word...repeatedly.
Oh I love my parents. My Dad and I sometimes talk about what we'd do if a disaster hit and just about being prepared. Especially with everything that's going on with the government right now..We just want to be prepared.
Well, have I ever told you why I don't let my gas tank go under a quarter of a tank? Here you go: 1.) Because it's not good for the car, obviously but 2.) What if something crazy happened and I didn't have gas and all the crazies were killing people just to get the last drops of gas from every gas station so they could get the heck out of dodge? I would at least be able to make it to Cole and Kier's house so I wouldn't have to face whatever was happening alone.
Am I dramatic? We know this already. But I need to at least have a way to get somewhere because we all know I wouldn't be able to survive at my apartment. I don't have storage..scratch that.. I don't really have food at all. ey yi yi.
Dear Santa, maybe you should get me a 72 hour kit for Christmas? Maybe a gun?

oh hey
It's been a week or so and the thought of blogging about my uneventful life right now seems kind of boring. I'm not complaining though, sometimes boring is good. Boring usually means that nothing bad is happening, right? Maybe not. I guess it just seems pathetic when it comes to writing about it. So do you want the real talk session about how everything's been this last week? I mean, aside from General Conference, which was amazing?
Here you go:
1) At work a few weeks ago we each were each gifted a Fitbit which is this little device that tracks your steps, calories burnt, and sleep each day. Great right? Well, if we choose to, we can be part of a team score board that shows all your steps each day along with the records of everyone else. Nightmare. Basically they just want us to be more aware of how much we sit in a day and they turned it into a little competition. Well, thank you FranklinCovey for making me feel guilty for the desk job you've provided me with...
The fitbit works. I now spend most of my nights watching my TV shows and doing ridiculous steps and exercises in front of the TV or feeling bad when I'm not up and moving. It's pathetic. Guess who didn't wear hers at all this weekend because of General conference though? This girl. "Opps. I forgot" was really just my way of saying "Yeah, like I really was going to have time to work out or walk around town while I watch all these talks. Get real."
2) Living alone, even though I only have to do it for 2 more weeks, is hard. Parts of me love it. The parts where I can lounge around in whatever I want and essentially do what I want when I want REALLY loves it. What I don't love is realizing that the only time talk at home is when I'm on the phone, have someone over, or when I accidentally talk out loud to myself (sadly, the talking to myself started happening more than I'd like to admit.) Again, pathetic. Also, I've realized that I feel kind of awkward when I laugh out loud over a TV show and no one else is there to join in. This shouldn't be an issue but I find it a little embarrassing.
3.) I found myself early Sunday morning ugly crying to a 30 minute video (that I watched from start to finish) about that guy who proposed to his fiance and surprised her with a wedding in Miami that same day based on all the stuff she pinned on her wedding pinterest board. When I said ugly crying, I meant ugggglly crying. I shouldn't be surprised though.. my life the night before was right out of a scene from a movie where I pathetically watched "Valentine's Day" on TV and accidentally ate three too many chocolate chip cookies. Yes, I know that Valentine's day is possibly one of the worst chick flicks and I was crying out loud to the ending...over it. Oh and for, in that same night, reading all 157 comments on a blog post from "The Weed" (a gay Mormon blogger, who's sealed in the temple to a women).. it's whatever. I really should get points for noticing what I was doing and for getting up and doing jumping jacks and other active things to get me to snap out of it. Kier told me it wasn't healthy but I've decided that Saturday night-Sunday morning was a teensy-weensy low point.
I'm convinced we all need one of those nights from time to time. It's alllllll goooood :)
4.) General Conference--Ok, I guess this deserves a bullet point from the week because it was the best thing that happened. I'm always amazed at the things I learn every time I watch general conference or read the talks later down the road. I wrote down so many great things that I learned. I think the biggest thing that was testified to me is that I am a daughter of my Heavenly Father and he loves me.. no matter what. I've always known this but I think sometimes we mess up or we get lost for a bit and we think that we aren't as deserving but I know that God's love is always there. Life will get hard but as the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson advised us that we should endure through the sunshine and the sorrow. Along with that, one of my favorite quotes from the conference was from Elder Holland who said "If the bitter cup does not pass, drink it up and be strong." Life will get hard sometimes and we will have trials that we feel no one else will understand.. but the Savior does. He's cheering for us and wants us to learn and grow from our trials. All he asks us to do is to work hard, keep enduring and include him in everything we do. You need a quote from a non LDS member too that will back it up? Thank you Ms. Kelly Clarkson.. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" :)
Don't give up.
5.) Oh yeah, Amanda and I turned in our deposit for our apartment we're moving into on the 19th! I seriously can't believe that's next weekend. I need to start cleaning and getting ready! We decided to stay in Layton and we got a 3 bedroom two bathroom apartment that's super spacious. We're both in spots in our lives where we need a change and for me, the saving money part is an exciting factor. This is going to be good; It has to. We want to find a third roommate to make rent even cheaper. The only problem is that we don't really have any girl friends around here...haha. Meh. For some reason we feel good about finding someone. Stay tuned for updates on that adventure.
6.) I guess the main reason why it's seemed uneventful this week is the whole government shut down. It's the pits. I never realized but Jamie, James, Coleman and I all work jobs that have to do with the government. My job isn't a government job but I work on the Government Team with FranklinCovey where I plan all the training seminars on the east side of the country for the Veterans Administration. Jamie and James work for the VA and as of tomorrow Jamie will be staying at home until this shut down is over. James gets to go into work but won't be paid for it until the shut down is over. It's kind of a crappy situation for both of them. Cole works on Hill Airforce Base as a general maintenance dude but because he's contracted he's fine. For me...? No VA workers means no events right now. Luckily we're locked into a contact so we're fine but it's sure made for an interesting couple of weeks here at work. Honestly, there's only so many times you can check the news, facebook, pinterest and buzzfeed before you want to poke your eyeballs out. OK, that was dramatic. But really.. today my most exciting thing was buying three rolls of washi tape on Etsy. haha It will get better..we just have to be here and deal with some slow boring days until the shut down is over.
Oh how bitter sweet it is working with the government :)
That's the update. Things should get exciting here soon with the new apartment and my favorite holiday right around the corner! Fingers crossed.
Boring or not.. Life is good :)

Being realistic.
I just went through all of my drafted posts on this blog and deleted them. You see, I have this problem where I type things either in fits of rage, extreme confusion, or frustration, only to get to the end of the post and realize that I'm being really dramatic, or irrational. I then decide to just save the post and to let myself cool it for a day or two. If I can go back after I'm cooled down and hit the submit button without any worry, then I would do it. The problem is that if I can't post it the first time, then it must make me look pretty bad or be super rude or something, so it just ends up getting deleted.
This last week I did a post about how semi-confused I was about something that doesn't even matter. I re-read it again this morning and was annoyed with myself. I was being that dramatic girl about something that, until this weekend, had never been said out loud. The post was annoying because I couldn't come out and really make that crap public...because it simply didn't matter, and would never matter.
I realized this week while talking to a good friend that, while it's good to be "ballsy" in life, it's really irrelevant to make bold moves when it comes to something that isn't good for you.
We all occasionally get tricked into thinking that things or people are good for us. Maybe it's just what's around or what feels good at the time or we're just bored and want a change, but sometimes our little brains and big hearts forget to think about the big picture.
I normally would be the one who would give people advice and say "if it's worth it then do something about it. Pray about it first, but try it. What do you have to lose?" BUT..the problem isn't really actually getting yourself to make bold moves I don't think. Yes, that part is hard, but I think the hardest part is deciding if it's worth it or if it fits into your life "plan." This can relate to anything really..
If you ever find your brain running about something that seems ridiculous. Shut it down. Decide if it's worth it to make a move. If it is, then stop thinking about it and do something about it. You really don't have anything to lose. Apply for that job, move to a completely different state because it feels right, tell that friend exactly how you feel! If it's worth it, then you have to at least try. Maybe it won't work out.. but at least you can say you tried and you can move on to the next thing.
Now, the harder situation is when you think you want something or someone but deep down you know that it's not right for you or would never work out. People might say that's being really cynical, but I feel like it's just being realistic. There are some things that are intriguing to me or catch my eye but that doesn't mean that it would ever work out or be what I need. That doesn't mean that I have a bad attitude or that I'm not a dreamer, it's just being realistic.
I've found that the best thing to do when in this situation is to think about years down the road.. what are you doing? Where are you living? Are you in love? What is that person like? Why do you love them?
Really.. think about it right now before you read on.
You don't have all the answers and you don't know exactly how life will play out, but all of those things you just thought about are what you really want and I promise you that those things are attainable. (If you took it serious of course.. I mean, I could have said that "I'm a celebrity, married to a recently baptized Zac Efron and I love him because he has the priesthood, he is funny and is good to me." haha you get what I'm saying.) If you took it seriously then the things you probably thought about are simple, basic, realistic things of what you want/need to have a happy fulfilled life.
If something doesn't fit into that plan then why would you waste your time? I don't know.. every person is different and I guess you can still follow through with it even if it is the exact opposite of where you want to be. Learning experiences? idk. do what you want. It could work out. Me? I go with what feels good but I don't like taking detours or wasting time.
I guess what I'm saying is that yes, we have irrational thoughts and feelings sometimes. You can decide to feed into them OR you can see where it fits into your plan of what you want down the road. If it doesn't, don't do it. Forget about it and move on. If it does and you keep getting the feeling that you need to do something (as long as it doesn't physically hurt you.. I want to make sure I get that straight), then you just need to be ballsy. Stop thinking about it and do it. You can even call me and I will help give you the confidence or bother you until you get it done ;)
Just do whatever you can to make sure you're progressing and happy!
For me.. I will just chalk one up to a lapse in judgment and irrational word vomit.
Don't ask--It's already irrelevant and forgotten :)

Wednesday
"You know who you remind me of?...Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates."
- Camille (Mail Room Lady at work)
This is literally the third person I've heard this from over the last couple of years.. it's weird. 1.) Because I don't look like her. At all 2) She's way prettier and 3.) I'm not sure if it's actually a compliment because she was super weird in that movie. Camille said it's because of the way I talk. So there you go. Whatever. I'll take it!
"I love this."
-Easton going on about my old man crush
I mentioned in my last post that this old man kind of caught my eye last week. Super funny story and Easton was just loving it. I'm sure the excessive caffeine and late night had a little something to do with it... or simply the fact that I've never really talk about "crushes." haha meh. OVER IT.
"Jenn, go line dance with him!!"
-My Boss
You seriously tell one person that you have a slight old man crush and that turns into your boss finding out and making fun of you. I should have just listened to him and line danced with him. BAHAHA yeah right.
"Come on...I like to have fun and party!" -Nieko
"We had fun last night." -Grandma Jenn
"I like to have fun and party two nights in a row." -Nieko
Everyone needs to have at least one friend who wakes you up and makes you realize that life is too short to be sleepy and boring on the weekends. Thanks, Nieko Bird.
"Don't feel bad about your plant. It's not like it will come back to haunt you."
-Mom trying to reassure me that it was OK to get rid of my plant
I shouldn't even give people another reason to think I'm weird but I really do have an emotional connection with plants. This isn't new because I've talked about it before. Well, when my grandpa Stump died almost 4 years ago (next month), instead of picking some flowers to take home (because i've always hated how picked flowers in a vase just die) I decided to take home a beautiful peace Lilly. Long story short, I've kept the think alive and kicking for almost 4 years in the same original pot. The problem is that you can't do that. Plants need to eventually be repotted with new soil. I never did that because when I realized I needed to do it, I knew that it wouldn't make the transplant alive. Well, yesterday my mom finally convinced me that it was OK to let it go. There were still shiny green leaves but there was a lot of trimming and ugly at the base of the plant. I was sad. Scratch that, I'm still sad this morning. It really took me about an hour of thinking about it and talking about it before I bagged it up and put it to rest in the dumpster behind my apartment. SAD.
But really, what if plants did come back to haunt you? NIGHTMARE.
"SNAKES ON A PLANE!!!"
-Me to my mom over Facetime before she instantly hung up on me.
Sometimes my mom and I have the funniest conversations. We had a pause for a second and me, being super weird, instantly and randomly screamed, "SNAKES ON A PLANE" and she instantly hung up on me. You guys, my mom can't even hear the word "snake" without freaking out. In fact, I know she reads my blog and she probably didn't even finish reading this post or skipped to the next section because she's so terrified. I finally called her back and she said in the most serious voice ever, "Don't you say that nasty word. I'll hang up on you again." hahahaha I love my mom.
"Have you been dating a long time?" -Lady in my ward to another girl
"Yes." (Insert exaggerated eye roll and sigh) "Almost 3 months."
-Typical mormon girl
I almost didn't write this one down because it's embarrassing. I could go on and on about how I feel about these people. The girl sitting next to me heard me accidentally laugh out loud when I over heard this conversation and luckily she felt the same way I did. We couldn't stop laughing. People, 3 months is not a long time. That's not even a semester of college. Get freakin' real. I mean, It's your life, do whatever. Pull a Klohe Kardashian and get engaged after 9 days of knowing someone, whatever. But don't act like 3 months is 2 years. Bring yourself back from the clouds and embrace the fact that you're weird and don't try to make it seem better than it really is. Oh, and good luck with that relationship.
I'm done.

Life is Good
It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted anything but I've actually been pretty busy the last couple of weeks. (Oh and before anyone asks, I haven't been writing down too many things for Wednesday posts. It was starting to feel like a chore so I might not do those as often. We'll see. I make my own rules.)
I guess I will just hit the points from the last few weeks. The deats. Lessons learned. The usual:
1- The Parma Reception for Cole and Kier went great. Again, we have so many supportive family members and friends. It's amazing. I've decided that one of the top 5 reasons why I want to get married some day is because I totally want all the money and gifts. Not joking. Sure, they got about 4 too many crock pots and glass casserole dishes, but whatever, those were instantly turned into cash, which I love. Someone needs to find me a guy to marry so I can get gifts. The end.
Actually, Alex and I decided that even if we don't get married, we each are going to have a "celebration of life" party in our honor. Now, this won't be like a birthday.. it will be the status of a wedding, complete with invitations, decorations, fancy attire, and gifts. Ok, ok.. maybe if we were on a reality TV show. A girl can dream.
2- Last week was the longest week of my life. Yes, I exaggerate quite a bit, but it really was a long week. It was the FranklinCovey Sales and Delivery Conference at the Marriott City Creek in downtown Salt Lake City. Four days of long meetings, fun activities, and prizes. Of course the activities and prizes were my favorite part but I didn't mind some of the meetings either. It's kind of nice getting a reminder of how great your job really is. I work for a company that has so many great practices and teaches people how to be better! I'm not sure what is better than that. It was just great getting to meet some of the people that I only get to work with over the phone and email.
3-I discovered that I don't mind old men. When I say that, I mean, that I found myself crushing on a guy that was probably my dad's age. Maybe older. It's whatever. It wasn't that "omg, butterflies in the stomach" kind of crush, but I just thought he was cute and nice. Like, a little more than I should have. Problem is that 1.) he's old and 2.) I work with him. HAHAHAHHAHAHA. Funniest mini crush of my life. Old men. smh. HAHAHHHAHA. Weird. Irrational. Ridiculous. That's really the best way I can explain it.
4- Living alone can be problematic. I started hearing sounds that I've never heard before in the living room area. Of course I immediately think I'm smack dab in the middle of some horror film so I still sleep with my bedroom door closed and have started leaving the hall light on while I'm going back from one room to another. The other night I even contemplated sleeping with my bathroom light on. I didn't though. I really need to stop watching scary movies but I just love them too much. In addition to the sounds, I've gone from grocery shopping once a week to successfully not going to the store for two and a half weeks. Sure, I had the conference last week so I was fed almost all week, but I don't know if I even would have gone if I didn't have the conference. I realized on Saturday that I better go to the store to at least get stuff for lunches for this week. I went and ended up getting some lettuce, hummus and reduce fat wheat thins. I think I have a problem. I'll figure it out soon, It's just been a minute since I've had to cook and shop for just one person.
5- I ordered my new 32 gig iPhone 5S. I know this really isn't a big deal but if you have any kind of broken button on your phone then you should feel my pain and be excited with me. Of course I didn't get there in time to get one that day but I did get it ordered. It also helps that it was paid for with a bonus from work. I love free stuff! I just hope it gets here sooner than they said it will. Fingers crossed.
6- I love my brother. We got to spend all day Saturday together. Movies, Lunch and shopping.. it was a good day :) I just love that he doesn't work on the weekends so we can for sure catch up on those days when we're both off.
7-Apartment hunting is officially almost over. Amanda and I found a place that we really like, but of course they were closed on Saturday when we tried to get it finished up. We should know over the next couple of days if they have a availability for us and when we're moving. I feel like I move all the time, but I'm excited for a change, and to start saving some monies ;) I just can't believe that it's already coming so fast!
8- I've realized this weekend that there are some people who just won't like you. This should be something that I realized long before the age of 25 but I've met some people in my life who just have negative feelings toward people for no real reason. I guess the best thing I can come up with is that you just can't care about these people. You can go on with your life and not have negative feelings toward them but just laugh, brush it off your shoulder, and move on with your life because the truth is that those people don't matter in your life. Yes, they are children of God, but that doesn't mean you have to be around them or tolerate them. Choose to ignore people who bring your down or those who choose to be rude or negative. Again, you don't have to be rude but you can just be like "meh" and move on. I recently found out about this girl who wrote the C word on my Niece's blog for no reason at all. Ew. The best part is that she hasn't even seen this girl for over a year. Pathetic, right? It really is true that some people really have nothing better to do with their lives than to try to bring people down to their miserable level. These people suck. Kind of like Satan sucks.
Stay away from them. Don't feed into their negative energy. It's not worth it.
9- Things ALWAYS find a way of working out. This is something that I have to remind myself about quite often. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've blogged about it multiple times. When we go through a trial we are able to make it through because we know that if we are trying that the Lord always has a plan and that things will just work out..eventually. It's funny that the things I stressed out about 3 months ago aren't even an issue right now like I thought they were going to be. I was worried about how I was going to take care of things and how I was going to live on my own and that's not even close to an issue right now. I know it's because I put the Lord first, I pay my tithing, and I have Faith. Things have just worked out.
I got a promotion at work (Team Lead) which comes with a little more money. It came just at the right time that I needed the morale boost AND things have fallen into place with getting an apartment in Layton with Amanda where I can save some money for a little while. Things really just work out. Of course that doesn't mean that we don't stress along the way, or that we don't have really long "down" periods sometimes, or that other issues don't or won't come up but I'm grateful for times like this. It's a real testimony builder for me of God's love for each of his Children. Even in the hardest times of my life, I've been reminded that things have ALWAYS work out at the right time they are meant to work out. Life can't suck for too long as long as you are opening your eyes to all the good around you.
10- Life is good, people.

Wednesday
I know I didn't do a Wednesday post last week, I'm sorry! I did, however, manage to get a few things jotted down with all the craziness from last week. Here's what I got:
"I just had my whole family at the temple tonight... I'm the man."
-Dad
I told you already that being in the Temple with my family was awesome. Dad was just loving it. I guess that would be one of the proudest moments as a parent in our Church so I don't blame him for thinking he's pretty awesome, because he is.
"uhh (*look of extreme confusion*) I don't know what to do with babies."
-Willy after Mason agreed to go to him.
Hahaha I love that Mason is 2 years old and it still freaked him out. That kid needs a real baby in his family STAT! Mason also went to Easton and you can sure tell he is an uncle. haha Boys are funny. Mason is Funny. The end.
"You're her mom? I thought you were her friend; you look so young!"
-Temple working sucking up to mom
Mom made sure that everyone knew that the temple worker thought she looked so young this weekend. I don't blame her though, I do like those kind of compliments... but really? My friend? HAHA. Old people. smh.
"You radiate pure righteousness"
-Lady to Chris, Nieko and Kyle while they were at Breakfast waiting for all of us to come out of the Temple Saturday morning.
I do admit that when all the boys walked up to the temple in their white shirts and matching ties on Saturday morning I was like "woot woot, lookin' good!" They looked sharp and boy was it working. Apparently the lady at breakfast liked it too because she went right up to them and started talking to them about how righteous and pure they looked. Haha. The best part was listening to them explain that they told her they were waiting for a wedding at the temple that they couldn't go to and how she went on about mistakes and how they can't go in "YET." hahaha. So funny. Not that they aren't pure or righteous, but that lady... haha... Who does that? She should have just told them they looked hot and moved along. I'm sure that's what she really was thinking.
"Is there an Old Navy around here?" -Mom
"How about we go to the New Navy instead of getting old clothes. Come. on!" -Dad
My dad thinks he's REAL funny. Actually, he is real funny...so I guess it works.
"Son of a gun! I missed the Pokemon battles at Comic Con this weekend...:("
-Willy
Words that we should never be surprised to hear come out of Willy's mouth. But we still got a good laugh out of it. Now, I don't mean to post this so that you can cyber bully him.. he loves it so let it be! Haha. On the real, I love that he openly admits that he still likes Pokemon. (He's not obsessive though) It's refreshing. When Cole, Easton and Nieko and I went to NYC a couple of years ago, we saw a Pikachu statue and we all instantly were like "we should take a pic for willy." Every person has there thing. His is just super funny and great.
"Macklemore."
-Mason
You know your nephew's cool when he says Macklemore..over and over again. And of course when he says it, it's the cutest thing EVER! I could probably post all of the things he said over the weekend but then you would get bored and they wouldn't have been as cute because most of them are just one word things. Like the way he asks for Cupcakes or the way he started crying when he saw mom and cole crying while dancing at the wedding. The kid is the cutest, sweetest thing ever!
"I can see you being a square dancer when you get old."
-Nieko to me at the Fair after seeing the old couples square dancing.
Well folks, I guess that's my fate... a square dancer in a super poofy skirt whose only joy is to delight people with my energy and dancing skills at the numerous fairs around the state. OK, actually.. it doesn't sound too bad. I was a little offended at first but then Nieko quickly reminded me that old people who do that have to be fun. One thing that I am and always hope to be is Fun.. So yeah, I see what he's saying. I could rock that poofy skirt and skip around with my cute old husband.. or boyfriend. #playaplaya *wink*.
Someday... Someday.

Wedding!
I know that most of the people who read this blog were either with us all day yesterday for Cole and Kiersten's wedding or have been able to see all the pictures on Facebook and Instagram. However, I want to take a few minutes to recap the day and the wedding.
I honestly can't believe that September 7th came so fast. I feel like we had been talking about wedding plans for a long time, but at the same time I couldn't believe how fast it came. It feels like it was just the other day that I was talking about Coleman getting engaged and starting to mentally prepare myself for the day when he would no longer be my roommate. It's weird, but it came, it happened, and it was beautiful.
My family was finally all together Thursday morning when Jamie, James, Regan and Mason's flight finally arrived. I haven't been so happy to see them. I hate that they live so far away. We all do. But I know that part of being a family is supporting each other and that's what we all are doing. Even though it stinks, and I miss them everyday when they are gone, we just have to make it work. The second they got here I knew it was going to be really hard to say goodbye two days later but we weren't going to let that get in the way. We were a little nervous that Mason wasn't going to warm up to us as fast because it had been a while since he'd seen some of us in person but yeah right... He loves everyone of us and has each of us right where he wants us. He even understands that Kier is part of our family now and asks to go to her and to go to "kiersten's house" sometimes. It's the cutest thing.
I had been really nervous all week because Kier and I were going through the temple Thursday night. I don't think I can really explain the emotions I felt waiting for that day to come. I can honestly say that the best thing I ever did was choosing to get myself ready to go to the Temple and to actually follow through with it. I've already felt my life change as I've worked on myself and decided to go. Thursday night quickly came and it was beautiful. It was most of the people I love the most in the most beautiful place on Earth. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I even had some of my friends sending me the nicest messages that whole day congratulating me and supporting me and that meant so much.. I think that Willy said it best when he told me that being with my family in the Temple would be one of the best memories I will ever have. He was right. Dad was even sure to make a comment and said "All my kids in the temple... I'm a proud papa." Yes, dad.. you're the best cook and a grade A champ of a Dad :) haha It was great. And sharing that moment with Kier... now, it doesn't really get better than that.
Friday was hanging out and decorating day. I knew going into it that everything was going to turn out amazing.. Did I get a little anxiety because everything was late the night before? yes. But as I've learned more about myself over the years I've learned that you sometimes have to take the back seat and get yourself out of situations that make you crazy or things you can't control. So before that happened Dad and I decided to stick in the Kitchen and make the 250 bags of Cotton Candy. All I can say is that I'm so glad I don't to that for a living. haha. Standing in one spot for a few hours bagging sugar was a little exhausting and a messy job but it was worth it. The cotton candy really did add a great touch to the reception and everything turned out so cute at the end of it all. Kier and Cole really are so blessed to have so many great and talented people who are willing to do any and everything for them!
We didn't get home until pretty late that night but mom and I still managed to sit up for a little bit and talk (cry) about change and people living far away... I know she was just sad about Jamie and Cole and I living so far away from her but I really understood that night what she was talking about. It stinks. But like I said before, it's life and sometimes it really does stink and it gets hard, but we make it work. We always do!
Saturday morning was an early one and sleeping on the couch for three nights in a row had already starting catching up to me the night before. I was tired in every way that you can be possibly be. But going up to the Temple, even though it was early, was really exciting. I was able to witness my first sealing and it was for my brother and new sister-in-law! Again, I couldn't have asked for anything more. It was beautiful. They are so in love and so happy :) She's officially a Hansen and I have a new sister!!!
Besides being in the temple again with family and some of our closest friends, I think the best thing about the whole day was all of the people who sacrificed their entire day to be with them to celebrate and support them. There were so many people there with us! For me it was really cool because not only did I have my immediate family there but I also had my second Utah family there. The boys. Cole's groomsmen. Maybe I was/am just really emotional this weekend especially but I couldn't help but feel overly thankful for the people that I've had placed in my life.. I have the best family and friends that anyone could ask for. Heavenly Father really does know exactly who/what you need at the exact time that you need it. I'm grateful for that!
Of course the luncheon and reception was just as great. Everyone in one place celebrating Cole and Kier. The luncheon was super long because for some reason the dumb boss only had three waitresses working and it took forever to get going.. but I still managed to fight back my anxiety and just got up and started helping with drinks for a little bit. It was great and people understood since they knew it was going to be an all day event anyways... the reception turned out amazing and emotional per usual. At the end of it when they did the dances cole pulled me out to dance, I lost it and the rest of the night was downhill from there... you know, with the tears part. We all were crying for different little reasons I think, but mostly because we are so happy and tired, I think. We Hansen's just have a lot of feelings and Kier might out rank us on that one, so Kier--Welcome to the family :) haha.
At the end of all of it, I've lost my roommate. Is it sad? yes. Am I crying right now? A little. BUT, our family is gaining one of the best people I've ever met...Someone who is perfect for my brother in every way! It's all worth it and I couldn't be happier for them. I like to think that the best thing that happened from living with Cole for the last two and a half years was me helping him get on his feet and learning how to live with a woman. I mean, if you can live with OCD, kind of bossy/neat freak me and not go crazy.. then you're pretty set. But I really do believe that Cole living with me wasn't just for him, but for me too. He's taught me that it's OK to not be all put together and in order all the time and that It's OK to be a little crazy sometimes. He's taught me a lot about being patient and caring and accepting and he's taught me how to be an example and how to be a better friend, sister and person in general. I love the kid and I'm going to miss seeing him everyday and having him as my dinner/movie partner all the time. I know we'll still do a lot of those things occasionally but I know it won't be the same. He has a new house and a new roommate. Like we always say.. change is hard but change is good and I'm excited to see what will come out of this change. We are both starting a new adventure.. his is just for eternity :)
Kiersten and Cole,
I love you so much!!! Congrats on finding each other and being in love.. and all that mushy stuff :) You're the best.
Love,
Your Sis!
