"Just love with its work boots on"

Most people know about the storm we had here in Utah last Thursday that did a lot of damage to Davis County.  I mean, it made national news.  Did I tell you that driving to work that morning was scary?  Well, it was.  I may or may not have called my mom a little upset and shed a few tears because I thought that my car was literally going to blow away with ME in it ["Twister" 1996 style].  I have never experienced anything like that.  Yes, we had a twister at our house in Parma when I was in the second grade that did A TON of damage.. but I slept right through it.  Not sure how, but I did.  So really, this is the worst wind that I remember being awake for that gave me a nice little fright.  Luckily we are all still standing, but I can't say that for a lot of the trees, fences, trampolines ect. that were effected by the close to 100 mph winds we had up in here.


After the storm, there was a lot of cleanup to do.  Look at this picture below of the line to get to the dump on Saturday!

It was bad enough that even after all of the cleanup people were doing over the last couple of days, there was still a lot left to do today.  We received a text this morning from our Bishop saying that we would have a shortened sacrament meeting and were then asked to put on our work clothes and head out to help our neighbors in Kaysville and East Layton clean up the debris from last week's storm in preparation for yet another storm that is suppose to hit tonight.


I had never heard of canceling church services for something like this but I am so grateful that they did.  I learned so much as we all divided and conquered to help those who needed it. It really is amazing what you can do when you work together to help one another.  The whole experience today was actually an answer to my prayers.  I've been needing to restore my faith in some of the people around here in general and well, there really is a lot of good in people..it's just that it's sometimes covered up with a lot of fake and a lot of ugly (that's for another blog post at another time) but there was nothing ugly about the hundreds of people out helping today.  There was a need for help and people pulled together to get the job done.


Cole, Liz, Amanda and I were able to join about 15 others in East Layton to help out a cute older couple who lost a few HUGE pine trees.  It was kind of hard work hauling all of the large branches and wood while it was cold and snowing a bit, but we didn't mind it at all because we knew we were helping them with something that would have taken them a week to clean up on their own.


I need to do this more often--To forget about myself and my faux-dramatic life and focus more on others.
